Tunesday Tuesday: Spiritual Song

We all need a little music in our lives. A good song can answer a question, soothe the soul and provide an escape. It can recall a memory in the most vivid detail and evoke the most intense feelings.
“Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything and anything else can have in common.” -Sarah Dessen
We created Tunesday Tuesday to do just that, bring people together through music.
We will designate a theme, and hope that you will share a song that embodies said theme for you. Post the video for the song, an audio clip, the lyrics- however you want to do it. Then, write a little something about why this song captures the week’s theme and link up your post here with us!
Visit your hosts after 9pm (EST) on Monday nights
to find out what the theme is for the week!
It would be awesome if you would follow your lovely hostesses (links below,) but other than that- let’s have fun with this! Know a fellow music lover who should get in on the party? Let them know about it! Want to share your groove with the world? Tweet it should you feel so inclined. Want to grab a button? Go for it. It’s really pretty and you’ll find it down below.

Can’t stick around for this week’s party??

Next week’s theme will be…

Love the Lyrics!

I don’t really listen to many Christian radio stations. I have one or two on my radio pre-sets, but mostly because I ran out of other stations to fill the buttons and I figured I wouldn’t accidentally flip to something completely inappropriate for my kids if I filled the remaining buttons with those. I have nothing against that genre, just have never really gotten into it. As far as music at church, mine is pretty traditional and we sing hymns during the service on Sundays. So I had to think about this theme a bit…

As I thought about songs that had to do with God or faith, the first one that came to mind was this one:

Rascal Flatts – Bless the Broken Road

This song rings true for me and I think speaks a lot to my beliefs. I have had broken roads and trials to go through. But I truly believe they were God leading me to his plan; to something better.

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

I didn’t feel like I was quite done with this theme, even though I had settled on this song. I kept tossing the idea of spiritual or inspirational songs around in my head. I knew there was something in there that spoke to me and my faith. Something about not being perfect, but still being loved by God. Something about needing grace. Then I heard this song on the radio in the car…

Miranda Lambert – Heart Like Mine

I ain’t the kind you take home to mama
I ain’t the kind to wear no ring
Somehow I always get stronger
When I’m on my second drink

Even though I hate to admit it
Sometimes I smoke cigarettes
The Christian folks say I should quit it
And I just smile and say “God Bless”

Cause I heard Jesus He drank wine
And I bet we’d get along just fine
He could calm a storm and heal the blind
And I bet He’d understand a heart like mine

Daddy cried when he saw my tattoo
But said he loved me anyway
My brother got the brains of the family
So I thought I’d learn to sing

Cause I heard Jesus He drank wine
And I bet we’d get along just fine
He could calm a storm and heal the blind
And I bet He’d understand a heart like mine

I’ll fly away from it all one day
And I’ll fly away

These are the days that I will remember
When my name’s called on a roll
He’ll meet me with two long-stemmed glasses
And make a toast to me coming home

Cause I heard Jesus He drank wine
And I bet we’d get along just fine
He could calm a storm and heal the blind
And I bet He’d understand
Understand a heart like mine
Oh yes He would
